I started to write… Something about a solar eclipse. Vague nonsense. Something deep but meaningless. We all think it sometimes. We all feel it sometimes, something deep but meaningless. But we like to believe in meaning. It’s the way our minds are wired. So, we give meaning to things that shouldn’t have, like deep feelings. We like to share our meanings with others. But in truth, once you give a meaning to something deep, it becomes shallow. You can’t see the bottom of a deep pond, only a shallow one. Why pretend to know what lies at the bottom? So, you shouldn’t give meaning to it. But you love to give meaning to things, and you love to share your meanings with others and pretend they are deep. And to some who share meanings and find agreement with others, the worst thing happens. They start to value them. The more people agree with a meaning, the more valuable it must be. At some point it becomes more valuable than gold, and much heavier. It starts to gain momentum, and like a boulder rolling downhill gathers moss, our meaning gathers depth. And no one can stop it. Anyone and anything in its path get sucked in; their individual existence… gone.
